Distinguished construction executive to lead projects across key North American region, continue growth of factory-built housing and mass timber innovation
SEATTLE – February 8, 2021 – Katerra, a technology-enabled construction company, today announced that Kris Beason has been appointed as Head of Construction for the Pacific Northwest. In her new role, Beason will be responsible for growing Katerra’s team and overseeing project delivery in this key region, which includes Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Central to this role will be continuing to help scale the delivery of Katerra’s factory-built multifamily housing and mass timber projects, as well as other active market sectors in the region. Beason is succeeding Greg Smith, who will be transitioning to lead project delivery for Katerra’s factory-driven Multifamily Residential Platform.
“We are honored to have Kris Beason join our U.S. leadership team,” said Paal Kibsgaard, Katerra CEO. “Her wealth of construction experience, forward-thinking leadership, and deep ties to the Northwest region will be a huge asset in Katerra’s work to positively impact the construction industry.”
With more than three decades of experience in construction management, Kris Beason is recognized for her ability to assemble high-performing teams and deliver large-scale projects across industry sectors. Prior to Katerra, she held multiple executive roles at some of the world’s most prominent development and construction firms, including Skanska and M.A. Mortenson Company.
“Construction is in my DNA, spanning several generations in my family,” Beason noted. “We’ve reached a defining moment in the future of construction, which is a big reason I was drawn to Katerra. I am both humbled by the massive challenges the industry continues to face and inspired by the opportunity to create positive change. I look forward to bringing projects to life with a laser focus on improving efficiency, sustainability, and predictability, along with delivering excellent value to our customers.”
Beason, an expert in sustainability and lean construction, notably oversaw the construction of the Bertschi School Living Science Building — the first project in the world to achieve the Living Building Challenge v2 certification and the first building of its kind in Seattle. A long-time advocate for women’s leadership in construction, she also joins the company with the goal of building a more diverse and inclusive workforce for the future. Beason’s advocacy has been reflected through her work on the boards of several industry organizations, including the Commercial Real Estate Women network, the National Association of Women in Construction, and the NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
