End of Year Snapshot: Project & Product Updates

The M

Katerra Snapshot is a monthly series highlighting updates and progress across Katerra’s portfolio of work. This month we focus on the completion of The M in the University District of Seattle, as well as updates on the projects, products, and technology driving our work.

The M: Taking Student Housing to New Heights in Seattle’s University District

Rising a dramatic 24-stories above Seattle’s University District, The M was the first high-rise project to break ground in the neighborhood in more than 40 years. Katerra worked in conjunction with client Pine View Development to navigate complex operational challenges, including new upzoning in the area and a global pandemic, to complete the project ahead of schedule and under budget, bringing much needed student housing to the University of Washington (UW) community.

“Despite it being the first tower in the area in over 40 years that utilized new and complex incentive based zoning, coupled with an incredibly tight sub market and the complications and delays of COVID-19, Katerra did an amazing job constructing a beautiful and clean project ahead of schedule and under budget.”

The Secret to Success? Team Expertise + Technology Empowerment

Technology-enabled construction management and a dedicated, experienced Katerra team helped deliver The M project ahead of schedule and under budget–despite facing a global pandemic and supply chain interruptions.

Katerra’s technology-infused approach weaves together deep construction knowledge, skill, and experience with virtual design and construction (VDC) to help visualize, prove, and track a project down to the finest detail. The result is more timely, precise delivery of projects and the reduction of re-work and waste throughout the project life cycle.
